چکیده

Background Aspirin (ASA) hypersensitivity is frequent in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyps (CRSwNP), which is called aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD). However, there are few studies on evaluating the prevalence of ASA hypersensitivity in patients with nasal polyps (NPs), using the oral aspirin challenge test. This study was designed to determine the frequency of ASA hypersensitivity and factors associated with ASA hypersensitivity in patients with CRSwNP.

Salicylate Food Intolerance and Aspirin Hypersensitivity in Nasal Polyposis

Background: A clear association between allergy and nasal polyposis (NP) is not determined and the role of food intolerance in patients with NP is not investigated by oral food challenge (OFC). Objective: To investigate the relation of salicylate food intolerance and atopy in patients with NP according to recurrence and aspirin sensitivity. Methods: A cross sectional multicenter study was d...

Rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis in aspirin sensitive and aspirin tolerant patients: are they diVerent?

Hypersensitivity to aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid; ASA) is present in 5–10% of asthmatic patients and is associated with chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis, a syndrome referred to as the aspirin triad. 2 The mechanism of the hypersensitivity reaction to aspirin is not immunological, but may be related to the inhibition of cyclo-oxygenase, an enzyme responsible for prostaglandin synthesi...

A Randomized Clinical Trial of Elemental Zinc Add-On Therapy on Clinical Outcomes of Patients with Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyposis (CRSwNP)

Recent studies suggest a relationship between zinc deficiency and inflammation. In the present study, we studied the effect of oral zinc supplementation on clinical improvement of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis. In this single-blind randomized controlled trial, 44 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with polyposis referring to ENT clinic of the Loghman Hakim hospital during 2013-2...
